EXPRESSION OF TRUTH AND BEAUTY
Since the enlightenment, the relationship between form and function has been a central architectural theme. The main objective of this project is to explore the analysis and transformation of existing prototypes (forms and patterns) based on new functions.
Form & Function
Span Prototypes
Minato Bridge - Osaka, Japan
Type: Double-deck Cantilever Truss Bridge
The Minato Bridge is a double-deck cantilever truss bridge in Osaka, Japan. It is the third-longest cantilever truss span in the world, behind the Quebec Bridge and the Forth Bridge.
Sydney Harbour Bridge - Sydney, Australia
Type: Arch Bridge
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the world's largest steel arch bridge and spans one of the globe's finest natural harbors.
Øresund Bridge - Copenhagen, Malmö, Malmö Municipality, Sweden
Type: Cable-Stayed Bridge
The Öresund or Øresund Bridge is a combined railway and motorway bridge across the Øresund strait between Denmark and Sweden. It is the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe.

Preliminary Design
I used the eyelash curler for the moving mechanism of the Minato Bridge. Initially, I only had a single pulley system to help move the roadbed. Later on, a combined pulley and gear system were incorporated into the design to pull the roadbed upwards. The new transformed bridge will have the ability to move a 30'x40' opening for a clear passage for travel. This design demonstrates a clear design transformation while maintaining its beauty and adding a new functional system.
