Architectural Design II

Architectural Design II is a continuation of Architectural Design I. Emphasis is placed on the process by which design decisions are made and the methods of analysis in context to the existing environment. Topics include structure, form, and function, building in context, light, and construction.

Form & Function:
Expression of Truth/Beauty

Since the enlightenment, the relationship between form and function has been a central architectural theme. The main objective of this project is to explore the analysis and transformation of existing prototypes (forms and patterns) based on new functions.

Contextual Fit:
Addition to an Existing Order

The main objective of this project is to explore the diagrammatic analysis of existing systems and patterns. The use of metaphors and analogies are used to strengthen design ideas and express cultural values.

Form & Order

The conflict between the built and natural environments and the resolution to accommodate these two competing patterns is a significant factor in architectural design. The main objective of this project is to explore the use of research techniques to test and formulate design ideas.
